What is a podcast?

A podcast is a file that usually contains audio or video in a format suitable for uploading to your Apple IPod.

The advances in technology and simplicity of new software, means that anybody with a computer can easily create a podcast and post it online for the world to access via the web. In this sense it is like broadcasting your own show.

Hence Apple have seized the market by encouraging people to download 'Podcasts' to the Apple Ipod and take it with you anywhere you go.

How can I experience it?

You can view the International Fund for Ireland Podcasts live on the website just by selecting one from the list to the left. Otherwise you can download it from the drop down menu in each section, or download the Audio alone. From here you can watch it or listen to it on your computer.

You can then upload the podcast to your IPod via Apple ITunes. You will need a video IPod to watch the video. Any MP3 player will play the Audio Podcast.

Do I need an Apple Ipod to experience a podcast?

No, you will be able to experience any podcast through your computer. Using Quicktime, ITunes or Windows Media Player.

Any MP3 player will play the Audio Podcast. The video Podcast is in M4V format. This will play on most portable video players such as Archos or Sony PSP as well as the IPod . This technology is still fairly new, and Apple seem to have the greatest strength on the market.

Does it cost anything?

Not a penny.

Do I need any software?

to watch it on the site, no. To download it and watch it you will need media playing software of which there are many out there, free for you download. Quicktime, ITunes or Windows Media Player are some of the the most popular. Go here to learn more.

Be sure to check you don't already have one of these already installed on your computer. Microsoft's Windows and Apple Mac's OS come with these as standard most of the time.
