Emyvale Enterprise Centre, Co. Monaghan
Like many towns and villages in the border counties, Emyvale, Co. Monaghan, has suffered economically and socially over the last couple of decades as large-scale employers in the area move their facilities elsewhere or close down.
The Emyvale Development Association, a cross-community group that had previously been involved in the construction of a leisure centre in the village, came up with a plan to combat unemployment in the area through the development of an enterprise centre.
Having secured initial funding from the International Fund, Emyvale Development Association was able to attract sufficient further funding to build such a centre in the town and it has proven to be a major success.
Opened in 2004, the Emyvale Enterprise Centre is home to a crèche and six enterprise units, all of which are occupied by businesses ranging from an IT Centre to a laundrette.
According to Marion Donnelly, Treasurer, Emyvale Development Association, the initial funding from the International Fund was critical to the centre being built. “Seeing that the International Fund was behind the project gave other funding groups confidence in us and the Centre,” said Marion.
The total cost of the project was €987,856 / £676,614, with the International Fund contributing €317,435 / £217,421. Other funding came from Area Development Management, Enterprise Ireland, Monaghan Country Enterprise Board and local contributions.
